Research & Training
The Director of Research & Training serves as a member's first point of contact for questions concerning municipal government.

Tracking local issues affecting municipal government and communicating that information to members is a key responsibility of the Director of Research & Training. Members are updated on issues through research reports, official publications or individual issue briefings.

Member municipalities are encouraged to attend the multiple training sessions offered throughout the year. Topics of interest to all those directly involved in municipal government are covered throughout the year.

Lori Martinec began her work as Director of Research and Training for the SDML in February 2015, and previously worked in the Victims’ Services Program with the Department of Social Services.  Lori graduated from Jamestown College, North Dakota with Bachelor’s Degrees in History/Political Science and Psychology as well as obtaining a Secondary Education Certification.

Members that desire information on a topic concerning municipal government are encouraged to email the Director of Research & Training or call 1-800-658-3633.
